1968 Indiana Mr. Basketball - Billy Shepherd
The Marion Giants Boys basketball program is set to name Billy Shepherd as it’s news boys basketball coach. Shepherd, the Carmel H.S. 1968 Indiana Mr. Basketball will take over the Giants program after James Blackmon backed out of the job nearly a month ago.
Sources close to Marion basketball and Billy Shepherd have told thehoopshouse.com that a contract for one year has been signed. No official release has been set from Marion officials. We expect Shepherd to be announced Monday.
I’ve been looking for the last 2 hrs. for Billy Shepards’ coaching record….It comes back doesn’t exist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Yes, I see he won mr .basketball 1960 something ,went to butler,one of Indianas’ all time scores. played for the ABA.1 yr asst coach experience. Now when I search for records for marion(this school is know for its basketball) ,As a former student who stood in line for my Dave Colescott shirt when I was 7 ,went to school during the PURPLE REIGN days,.Married a Marion Stand out. now a parent we moved back to let our son be a GIANT! we thought we had made the right choice when we went 30-1 in 2 yrs our son best friend &teammate is 6’7 .then we get to the high school to coach Dis GRACE.with his DUI his hiring of freshman coach who dated a cheerleader” theres more but,I ‘ll stop. so when he was fired.and we heard James was coming back!You could feel the excitement when you talked to people.then for what ever reason james backs out!(note 2 James do you think it was easy for any FIRST BLACK anything??!!!)Now here we go again .who will we get?The decision the school board makes is one I don’t think the Giants deserve!We have a OUT STANDING resume.but our coach ,his as the search engines shows DOES NOT EXIST!!!!!!!you tell me. HOW DOES THIS WORK????????????????
Billy actually had an outstanding record as Head Coach for the Muncie Central Bearcats in early 2000′s with a less than talented team….he has been longtime Travel coach…understands the game and teaches it the right way…your son would be grateful to play for him……..do some better research
Billy is an outsanding individual…very high character and integrity. He knows the game of basketball too. I suggest you keep an open mind instead of criticizing so quickly.
He was the INTERIM Coach ….Never was hired as the coach,matter of fact after he went 24 -2 they didn’t not HIRE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Instead they hired coach fine….I have no doubt Mr.shepard is a great guy BUT, put are resume against his ,not even in the same REHLM!
I had the wonderful opportunity of meeting and talking with coach Shepherd and former coach Green yesterday and couldn’t have been more pleased with his professionalism and enthusiam. As a former 30 year coach myself it is attitudes and comments like joellens predetermined opinions that makes coaching more difficult in todays I know it all society.
